Chorale Administrator, Metropolitan Chorale of Brookline
The successful Chorale Administrator (C.A.) will be an enthusiastic, dependable, organized, and highly motivated individual with a background in arts administration. This individual will report directly to designated members of the Board and will be amenable to the Music Director, Officers, and Board. This individual needs to be comfortable working independently, as well as with small groups. This is a part-time position and lasts for the remainder of this concert season through May.
The C.A. will provide support in the following areas:
Marketing: The C.A. will assist the VP Marketing in 1) pre-concert marketing: print, social media, and website 2) proofing concert program books, 3) video creation for season reviews and upcoming concert season.
Website and Data Management: The C.A. will keep the website current and keep the patron database updated throughout the season.
Concert Operations – Logistics: The C.A. will assist the VP of Operations in the following ways: logistical interface with sound, lighting, and video recording personnel, serves as Box Office Manager (which includes audience seating), coordinates professional signage (directional) for each concert venue, recruits and oversees ushers.
Miscellaneous Administrative Duties: The C.A. will attend each Tuesday rehearsal (arriving 20 minutes prior to rehearsal and leaving after the break) and OPS meetings. In addition, he will research creative and traditional venues that could be used for concerts by the Artists in Residences, Chamber Choir, and Metropolitan Chorale.
Concerts – Musical Support: The C.A. will assist the Music Director in the following ways: coordination of orchestral scores, stage setup, hosting of conductor and solo artists’ needs during dress rehearsal week and concert days. The C.A. will attend all dress rehearsals and concerts and be available to provide support as deemed necessary by the Music Director.
Resource Development: The C.A. will assist with grant research and writing per the direction of the VP of Resource Development.
General Comments Pertaining to the Calendar: It should be understood that the work load will be heavier in the three to four weeks leading up to a concert. There are also breaks in the season when work will be minimal.

A Besere Velt (A Better World) Choral Director beginning 2018-19 season
Boston-area multi-generational community chorus with focus on social justice and Yiddish/Jewish culture seeks experienced choral director, beginning in the 2018-19 season, with a commitment to high quality performances and a fun and uplifting experience for all members.
A Besere Velt is a lively 60-member community chorus that has been the musical face of Boston Workmen’s Circle in the local music scene over the last 17 years. The chorus has performed its own thematic concerts and collaborated with established professional artists from a variety of musical. Click here for an example.
Boston Workmen’s Circle (BWC) is a community of 500 members that offers a spiritual home for secular Jewish life, a voice for progressive Jewish values, inclusivity, and social change, and an arts and education center celebrating Yiddish, Jewish, and progressive culture (www.circleboston.org).
The part-time chorus director position entails:
• Enthusiastic commitment to a choral repertoire focused primarily on social justice and Yiddish/Jewish culture
• Development of the musical repertoire for each season
• Planning and leading approximately 2 rehearsals per month on Saturday afternoons
• Ability to work with people who have a wide variety of singing abilities
• Arranging tunes as needed for choral performance
• Producing or overseeing production of digital recordings for practice
• Development of one major chorus concert per year in cooperation with a committee of chorus members, as well as smaller musical events
• Assist in identifying performance opportunities
• Consulting with BWC leadership to plan chorus activities in the larger context of the BWC community
Salary is negotiable based on experience.
