WITH SWEET ACCORD: A HOLIDAY CONCERT

Fri, December 9, 2016 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm UTC-4

$20

THE JAMESON SINGERS

Featuring works by Rachmaninoff, Josquin, Grieg, Duruflé, and others

Jameson Marvin, Conductor

The program spans more than five centuries and several countries of seasonal music,

with a cappella pieces from the late 15th century (Josquin’s immaculate “Ave Maria”)

through the 21st century (Jameson Marvin’s sparkling “Gloria Festiva brevis”). The choir

will also perform two movements from Sergei Rachmaninoff’s All- Night Vespers, op. 37,

Edvard Grieg’s motet “Ave Maris Stella,” Maurice Duruflé’s “Notre Père,” op. 14, Tarik

O’Regan’s “Locus iste,” and other holiday favorites: “Veni Emmanuel,” the Swedish

carol “Jul, jul, stralande jul,” Harold Darke’s “In the Bleak Midwinter,” and Carol Barnett’s

arrangement of “Webster” from The Sacred Harp. In addition, the audience will have the

opportunity to sing along on several traditional carols.

The Jameson Singers bring to this performance their signature, highly expressive and

nuanced choral sound. The 60-voice ensemble is directed by Jameson Marvin, who has

been praised by the Boston Globe as “a choral conductor of consummate mastery.”

Many of its singers are graduates of the legendary Harvard Glee Club and other premier

choruses at Harvard, where Dr. Marvin served as director of choral activities for over 30

years.
