Jameson Singers Auditions

Sat, September 8, 2018 @ 10:30 am - 1:00 pm UTC-4

The Jameson Singers is open by audition to Boston area singers who have choral/vocal experience and quick musicianship.  We strive to attain a high level of intonation, balanced vocal textures, ensemble rhythm, and expressive nuances that highlight the passing musical gestures. We look for singers with flexible voices who can blend well and can sing easily with and without vibrato. A good ear, strong sense of rhythm, inherent musicality, and good sight-reading skills are important.

We request that auditionees make an appointment for a 15-minute audition time with Trish Ball at trishball@verizon.net. The audition consists of singing an unaccompanied piece of your choice (e.g., folk song, Christmas carol, patriotic song, religious hymn) and evaluating your range (best vocal part), ear, and sight-reading. Bring your healthy voice!

Formed in the fall of 2010 by Jameson Marvin, Director of Choral Activities Emeritus at Harvard University, our 60-voice ensemble celebrates our 9th Concert season this year, with two Christmas/Holiday Concerts (December 1 and 8) of repertoire ranging from motets of Josquin, Victoria, and Schütz to Andrew Rindfleisch’s Veni Sancte Spiritus, movements of Britten’s Ceremony of Carols, and audience carol singing. The finale of the 2018-19 concert season will be the performance of Brahms’ Ein deutches Requiem on May 10 at First Church Cambridge.

Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings from 7:15-9:45 PM.  Auditions (by appointment) and rehearsals are held at Payson Park Church, 365 Belmont Street, Belmont, which has street parking and is accessible by public transportation.
