Endings and Beginnings: Choral music as remembrance
Sun, March 26 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm$15 - $20
The Oriana Consort presents Endings and Beginnings: Choral music as remembrance. The program includes Claudio Monteverdi’s Lagrime d’amante (Tears of a lover), selections from Herbert Howells’ Requiem, Gerald Finzi’s My spirit sang all day, Thomas Tomkins’ When David heard, and Clément Janequin’s Le chant des oiseaux (Birdsong). The concluding work is Aaron Copland’s In The Beginning, with the mezzosoprano solo sung alternately by Oriana’s Katheryn Currie and Tami Papagiannopoulos. Of these six a cappella choral works from the 16th, 17th, and 20th centuries, three commemorate the ending of life, while the other three celebrate beginnings: of love, of a spring day, of the universe.
