Cantilena Early December Concert
Sat, December 2, 2017 @ 7:30 pm$15 – $20
Double Delight : enchanting music for women’s chorus and piano, four hands & duos
Jennifer Kane, Music Director
Joshua T Lawton and Guest Edward Rosser, piano
“If one is divine, two are utterly magical.” writes Director Jennifer Kane as Cantilena invites you to explore both rare and well-known compositions for women’s voices and two pianists. Guest pianist Edward Rosser joins Cantilena’s Joshua T Lawton who play either one piano with four hands on the same instrument or a pair of hands on each of two pianos. Experience the depth of sound achieved with this enthralling combination which allows for unique textures to be interwoven between vocal and tempered notes.
The concert offers selections from Neue Liebeslieder Walzer, Op. 65, love songs by renowned Romantic composer Johannes Brahms, and Gustav Holst’s a capella Ave Maria for double chorus, contrasted with contemporary classical compositions including Grammy winner René Clausen’s rousing Psalm 100; Libby Larsen’s exuberant Canticle of Mary; and Radcliffe alumnae B. Warren and poet Ruth Whitman’s rarely performed The Appletree Madrigals.
Refreshments with the chorus follows the performance.
