Cambridge Community Chorus presents Handel’s Judas Maccabeus
Sun, December 17, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pmFree – $25
One of Handel’s most popular oratorios, Judas Maccabeus tells the story of the second century BCE Maccabean Revolt, in which the heroic Jewish leader of the title led his people to victory over Syrian oppression.
The work ends triumphantly with the Jewish people re-taking the Temple in Jerusalem and celebrating Hanukkah, “The Feast of Lights.”
Featuring some of Handel’s most rousing choruses and loveliest arias, the music dramatizes a great emotional journey from abject misery – “Mourn, ye afflicted children” – to jubilant celebration – “See, the conquering hero comes.”
In this performance, the Chorus will be inspired by acclaimed Boston-area soloists Teresa Wakim (soprano), Mary Gerbi (mezzo-soprano), Jason McStoots (tenor) and Ulysses Thomas (bass-baritone.)
