Accessibility & Inclusion

Sat, September 15, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm UTC-4

Join GBCC for its opening meeting of 2018-19 on the topic of “Accessibility and Inclusion”.

Our choirs are always looking to engage and support singers and audience members, but are we aware of the ways in which we unintentionally push them away? Our special guests for this meeting are Andy Clark, Director of Choral Activities at Harvard University, and Charles Baldwin, Program Officer for Mass Cultural Council’s Universal Participation Initiative. Charles will discuss ways that choirs can make everything from their programming to their marketing materials to their spaces more inclusive and equitable for the community, while Andy will discuss strategies for helping all those within our choirs feel welcome, particularly those who are undergoing transitions that may affect their singing. Come share your choir’s strategies for accessibility and inclusion!

All those affiliated with current and prospective GBCC choirs are warmly welcomed, but this topic is particularly recommended for: Artistic/programming staff, membership/recruitment chairs, marketing, front-of-house volunteers.  Admission is FREE!

Recommended Reading: Gala Choruses’ Resource Center, including this 2-page handout on “Creating Inclusive Choirs: Transgender & Gender Nonbinary Singers”.
