Belmont Open Sings, Mary Beekman, Artistic Director |
John Rutter "Requiem" All
Belmont Open Sings concerts take place at Payson Park Church, 365 Belmont
Street, Belmont, MA 02478. John Rutter, a prolific and popular contemporary British composer of
seasonal carols and music for Christian worship, completed his Requiem in
1985 for a performance under his baton in Dallas, TX. Its orchestration,
overall mood of comfort and optimism, and structure are similar to the 19th
century Requiem of Gabriel Fauré. Rutter interposes various texts from the
Bible among the movements of the traditional Catholic mass. His "Out of
the deep" moves from a mood of distress to assurance of God's as aid
through the use of solos for baritone and cello. Like Fauré, Rutter sets
the"Pie Jesu" for soprano solo, but accompanies it with the ch chorus as
well as Fauré's harp. Individual concert tickets: $ 7 per ticket for all ages. |
